David and Rachel Hersh in a lavender field

our story so far…

Rooted Hospitality Group is a family-owned restaurant company founded in 2009 by David Hersh and Rachel Hersh. The group has grown from humble beginnings into a collection of distinct concepts, including RUMBA, Cowfish, flora, Fauna, and AVO TACO.

For David and Rachel, opening in Charlotte represents more than expansion, it’s a homecoming.

“Charlotte has always held a special place in our hearts,” says David. “When we first started dating, we moved here, bought our first home in South Charlotte, and built some of our most meaningful memories. Work eventually pulled us back to New York and New Orleans, but we always knew we’d return. Now, with our two young boys, Jude and Shayd, it feels like the perfect moment to come back to a place we once called home.”

Now, that story continues with flora Charlotte.

the heart behind the experience

At flora, the philosophy is simple: Eat. Drink. Love. Guests can expect top-shelf cocktails made with premium spirits and fresh ingredients, paired with a menu of vibrant, thoughtfully prepared dishes. From a mid-day glass of wine while shopping to a relaxed lunch or intimate dinner, flora is designed to be a place you return to again and again. That experience starts with the team. We’ve been recognized as one of the Best Restaurants to Work For, earning that distinction multiple years in a row. By investing in our people, we create a culture where care and hospitality are felt at every table. Our goal is to bring something meaningful to South End, a place where people feel at home, whether they’re celebrating, unwinding, or simply enjoying a great meal. We’re excited to plant new roots in Charlotte and grow thoughtfully in the years ahead.

Sierra Greygor, General Manager | flora, Charlotte, NC

Sierra Greygor
General Manager

Sierra fell in love with Charlotte the moment she stepped foot into the city. It immediately felt like home to her. That instinct, rooted in connection and energy, mirrors the way she approaches hospitality—leading with warmth, intuition, and a genuine love for people. Raised in a close-knit Italian family, Sierra’s passion for hospitality began around the table, where food was how her family showed love and built lasting connections. That foundation shaped her belief that great hospitality is about making people feel like they belong. With nearly a decade in the industry, Sierra has built her career on creating experiences that feel both elevated and personal. At flora Charlotte, she brings that philosophy to life, ensuring every guest feels genuinely cared for. Her current favorites include the Kale Salad, where she loves how light and balanced the dressing is, along with the Lavender Fizz—an easygoing, refreshing cocktail that perfectly complements the experience she strives to create for every guest.

the difference

We pay attention to the details most people don’t see, so you can taste the ones that matter. flora is a Certified Green Restaurant and an Ocean Friendly Restaurant through the Surfrider Foundation, which means we’re thoughtful about how we source, prepare, and serve everything that reaches your table.

But this isn’t about checking boxes.

It’s about better ingredients, cleaner flavors, and a more intentional approach to every dish and cocktail we create. When one takes shortcuts, you taste it. When we don’t, you really taste it.

That’s the difference.

Just a warning… Once you experience it, it tends to stay with you, the kind of meal you’ll still be talking about days later with friends, family, and anyone who’ll listen.
